Typhoon 15W LINGLING makes landfall on Saturday morining at 6 UTC with wind velocities up to 100 kn (185 km/h). There can be up to 300 mm precipitation locally until Saturday evening.
06 Sep - 07 Sep 2019

Typhoon 15W LINGLING is located 384 km south of Kunsan Ab and has been moving northwards at a speed of 15 kn (28 km/h) for the last 6 hours. The current wind velocity is 110 kph (204 km/h), in gusts up to 125 kn (232 km/h). The Typhoon belongs to category 3 and will probably hit land tomorrow morning (07.09) at 6 UTC south of the city of Ongjin (about 140 km south of Pyongyang). Due to the still quite high water temperatures (28-30°C) and a moderate wind shear the Typhoon does not weaken above sea and makes landfall with wind velocities up to 100 kn (185 km/h).

The satellite images show the rather narrow circulation with sharply defined rainbands. After the landfall and the absence of moisture, LINGLING weakens quite quickly and belongs to category 1 after the landfall.

But not only the high wind speeds pose a danger, but also the heavy precipitation in this area. In some places up to 300 mm can fall by Saturday evening. A storm flood must also be expected.
